MDS coding is better than replication for job completion times

چکیده
If queue-states are unknown to a dispatcher, replication strategy has been proposed where job copies sent randomly servers. When the service of any copy is completed, redundant removed. For jobs that can be algebraically manipulated and have linear servers, get response-time performance sending d n via strategy, with Maximum Distance Separable (MDS) codes we show n+d suffice. That is, while multiplicative, MDS linear.

Total Knee Replacement Sizing: Shoe Size Is a Better Predictor for Implant Size than Body Height
Background: Various sizes of implants need to be available during surgery. The purpose of this paper is to comparebody height and shoe size with implant sizes in patients who underwent total knee replacement surgery to see whichbiomarker is a better predictor for preoperative planning to determine implant size. Methods: A total of 100 knees, belonging to 50 females and 50 males, were observed. P...
متن کاملThe Constrained Minimum Weighted Sum of Job Completion Times Problem
We consider the problem of minimizing the weighted sum of job completion times on a single machine (subject to certain job weights) with an additional side constraint on the weighted sum of job completion times (with respect to different job weights). This problem is NP-hard, and we provide a polynomial time approximation scheme for this problem. Our method is based on Lagrangian relaxation mix...
متن کاملESTIMATING EXPECTED COMPLETION TIMES WITH PROBABILISTIC JOB ROUTING Nirmal Govind
A common problem in production environments is the need to estimate the remaining time in system for work-inprogress jobs. Simulation can be used to obtain the estimates. However, when the future path of a job is uncertain (due to stochastic events such as rework), using simulation to estimate the remaining cycle time of a job at step k can be imprecise; traditional confidence intervals on the ...
متن کاملHeterochromatin Replication: Better Late Than Ever
Different heterochromatic properties appear on satellite DNA during successive embryonic division cycles in Drosophila. One such property, late replication, precedes HP1 recruitment, is under the control of zygotic transcription, and helps to lengthen S phase.
متن کاملIs ACCTRAN better than DELTRAN?
When parsimony ancestral character reconstruction is ambiguous, it is often resolved in favour of the more complex character state. Hence, secondary loss (secondary ‘‘absence’’) of a complex feature is favoured over parallel gains of that feature as this preserves the stronger hypothesis of homology. We believe that such asymmetry in character state complexity is important information for under...
